Explore Singapore: Accela’s Guide To Changi

Changi is a quaint area found on the southeast side of Singapore. Before it was known to be home to our world-renowned Changi Airport, and a recent shopping destination addition, JEWEL, Changi was initially known for its coconut and sago plantations in the 19th century.

During colonial times, Changi was transformed from plantations and forests into a modern fortress of the East. It became a self-contained base, fitted with sports facilities, cinemas, clubhouses, and schools.

Changi has changed over the decades into a booming aviation hub with sandy beaches, hidden food gems, and fun-filled activities that can fill up your whole day. Find out some of the neighbourhood’s best-kept secrets below.

Mood Swing

Located inside the Changi Civil Service Club across from Changi Village, you'll find dual-concept restaurant Mood Swing. In the day, you can enjoy Australian-inspired dishes ranging from the classic beer-battered fish & chips and juicy beef burgers to Build-Your-Own-Brunch. As the sun sets, Mood Swing transforms into a Japanese Grill with a modern Asian menu. Bring your friends and family to this rustic beachside restaurant and enjoy a delectable meal with a side of colonial charm and gorgeous sea views.

Soak in the natural and peaceful ambiance while taking in the sunset along Changi. As you walk along the path, you'll be able to take in the sights of Johor, wildlife such as our native hornbills, and more. The walk begins from Changi Creek, and you'll make your way to Changi Beach Club before finishing up at the park connector at Netheravon Road.

However, if you consider chartering a course to Changi Naval Base, visiting The Singapore Navy Museum will be well worth your time. At this museum, find historical artifacts of the Navy's first ship, static displays of torpedo guns, submarine simulators, and much more! Admission to this museum is free for everyone. Also, remember to bring any kind of government-issued photo identification to facilitate entry.

Little Island Brewery

If you plan on going for a cycle around Pulau Ubin, make sure you plan a pit stop at this laid-back microbrewery. The high ceilings and long wooden tables with umbrellas will remind you of any Aussie pub’s beer garden. But inside, you can appreciate the industrial look of the fermentation tanks and stainless-steel counters. Depending on your preference, enjoy a handcrafted beer on tap starting at $10. If you are starving after some physical activities, chow down on an array of meals like a brisket sandwich, eggs benedict, or pork belly with a crispy cumin rub. After a long walk or cycle, Little Island Brewery Co is a great stop to quench your thirst and fill your belly.
