5 Minutes With… Joe Yan Low
Tell us a little bit about your role with Accela?
My role as a Communications Coordinator at Accela includes assisting the team in running daily campaign activities and managing internal processes for clients to ensure good executions of the team’s PR strategies.
What’s the most inspiring part of your job?
Being a part of our client’s campaigns and aiding the team in developing them, I see myself feeling a great sense of accomplishment when our work reaps into great results.
What do you like about working at Accela?
I love the great diversity of people and culture we have at Accela. As much as everyone works within their teams, everyone is still closely knit, and we all bond well.
What would you say truly differentiates Accela from the many competitive choices that exist today?
Accela provides a community where everyone feels comfortable and can thrive well within and out. Aside from that, Accela has a wide range of clientele, from lifestyle destinations to dining establishments and many others. Accela also provides other services beyond communications such as finance and HR, making us a one-stop shop for key business management needs.
Do you have any “hidden talents”?
I would say I have a talent for crafting. Growing up, I always find myself enjoying art lessons the most at school. It allows me to let go, and be my creative self coming up with anything I can think of, with my own hands. I’ve since picked that up as a hobby, where I love experimenting with different art forms, and seeing what I end up with.
Best career advice you’ve ever received?
Keep going and everything will eventually fall into place. This is a phrase that stuck with me in the past year and it goes more than just a piece of career advice. Things happen just as they are meant to occur, definitely will serve as a good learning experience looking back.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I would love to be a museum curator. I like the idea of being able to put together and create an experience that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the exhibits, creating a space for people to learn.
What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
One thing I can’t live without is music. As mediocre as it sounds, music marks different milestones in my life and serves as a form of comfort.
Imagine your perfect night - are you staying in or going out?
My perfect night includes staying at home! I like to dedicate time to myself and spend time unwinding while doing things I love. On a weekend when I stay in, I find myself catching up on shows that I’ve missed while spending time on little art projects that I’ve challenged myself to.
It’s happy hour, what’s in your glass?
I don’t have an exact pick, but something light and simple will hit the spot!
