5 Minutes With… Katie Boon

Which team are you part of and what are you in charge of?

I’m part of Accela’s Communications team and am in charge of ensuring we meet our clients’ briefs and objectives.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job?

Definitely our clients! We are fortunate to have an amazing portfolio of clients across hospitality, travel, and F&B, all of which entrust us to do our best work. I love that our clients are brilliant and talented too; it’s awesome fun sharing ideas and strategies with them.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I always jumpstart the day by clearing my emails before ticking off the items on my to-do list, which comprises tasks such as leading client meetings and reviewing press releases, project plans, and coverage reports. In the evening, I will spend a few minutes perusing my calendar and plan the next day’s tasks before winding down with my family over a meal.

What would you say truly differentiates Accela from the many competitive choices that exist today?

We don’t just hire people with public relations credentials or agency backgrounds, giving us a unique outlook and perspective on situations and projects. Due to this, we can think outside the box and test alternatives to traditional PR methods to achieve our client’s goals.

What is the biggest challenge facing leaders in Communications today?

The way consumers, especially Gen Zs, are using social media and consuming media is constantly changing. Brands must stay relevant and think of new ways to build an authentic connection with their target audience — which is where having a solid communications strategy helps!

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

A fashion designer in one of LVMH’s distinguished houses!

Best career advice you’ve ever received?

When you realise work is not your life, you will love it even more.

What is your soundtrack of choice?

I’m currently very into 8D tunes.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

Having a good laugh with friends over food and drinks.

Where are you looking forward to traveling when things open up a bit?

I just returned from Jakarta and Phuket, but I’m already planning my next holiday. If all goes well, it will be a road trip around France!

It’s happy hour, what’s in your glass?

An Aperol spritz!
